At a point where things could not go any worse, the government of Pakistan has announced an increase in the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 35 per liter across the country with immediate effect. Federal Minister Khurana Ishaq Dar said in a press conference that due to the agreement with the IMF, the prices of petroleum products are being increased.
Dar stated that the price of petroleum products was speculated to increase by more than 50 rupees, but the government has tried to shift the minimum burden on the public.
Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had rejected speculations of a hike in petrol and diesel prices, which again, was false hope.
