A couple who danced on the street in Iran was sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to foreign media, the Iranian couple were convicted on charges of corruption, prostitution and propaganda. Before the couple’s arrest, their homes were also raided.
The couple posted a video on their social media of them dancing in the Azadi Tower in Tehran. In the video, Haghighi was not wearing a headscarf, in defiance of Iran’s strict rules. Women are also not allowed to dance in public, let alone with a man.
According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the country has also imposed bans on the couple, including using the internet and leaving Iran. The authorities are giving severe punishments to the people involved.
