The newly appointed IGP of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, belongs to Dera Ismail Khan. He did his bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering in Lahore. He was rewarded with the sword of honor and has been serving the police force since 1994.
Gandapur was the senior ASP on the course from 1995-96. He served in many important positions during his service, including Additional IGP CTD Balochistan, Additional IGP Special Branch Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zonal Director FIA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Additional DG FIA HQ Islamabad. He has also been the regional police officer of Swat, Hazara, Kohat, Malakand, Mardan, and Gwadar.
Akhtar Hayat Gandapur was appointed as Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, replacing Moazzam Jah Ansari on Thursday. He was one of the three candidates nominated for the post. The candidates were first interviewed by the Prime Minister and later by the caretaker CM KP.
Gandapur is known for leading the police force in difficult situations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In addition to eradicating many criminals and kidnappers in Malakand Division, he served to establish peace and order in the region after the operation of the security forces.
As the new IG, Gandapur is bound to encounter many challenges, including the prevention of attacks by militants in the province, extortion, the elimination of the occupation mafia, and transparent and peaceful elections in the province, including CTD and other units.
