Mobile phones have become a means of survival in the modern age. Especially with the social media, people spend hours mindlessly scrolling through pages and reels. The extensive and long term use of computers, smartphones or tablets can cause Smartphone Vision Syndrome. A condition in which the eyes lose their power to see.
A 30-year-old woman from Hyderabad lost her eyesight due to spending 8-10 hours of her day on a smartphone. The woman initially suffered from eyesight issues every fifteen minutes, including blurred vision, zigzag lines, and flashes of lights, for more than a year. She would even go blind for a few minutes at night if she had to wake up for some reason.
After failing to detect any neurological disorders in the woman, the doctors suspected that the issues might be associated with her using smartphones in the dark for several hours. The doctors, after a thorough examination, did not prescribe the woman medicine but instead advised her to minimize the use of smartphones, to which she agreed.
The woman returned after a few weeks and informed the doctors that all her had subsided after she stopped using the smartphones. To the doctor’s surprise, the woman had regained her vision completely after abandoning her unnecessary use of smartphones.
