Tales of war, love, longing, ambushes, and desires, enveloped and kept safe for decades, reached to the heir they belonged to.
Long lost letters written by a World War II soldier have been returned to his daughter after 30 years. The letters were discovered during the renovation of a house in New York.
Dottie Kearney, 51, said that she and her husband were removing plaster from the walls of a house they bought in the 1990s when the hidden letters were discovered. These letters were written by World War II soldier Claude Smith to his wife Mary Smith.
Kearney stated that she read the letters several times over the years when one day she saw Chelsea Brown, an ‘heirloom investigator’ on a show. It was then when she decided to find the family of the author and return the letters to where they belonged.
Dottie managed to contact Chelsea Brown who happily agreed to help her. With the help of the website MyHeritage.com, the two identified the couple’s daughter, Carol Bohlin, who lives in Vermont.
Chelsea Brown handed over letters of Carol Bohlin’s parents. The photos of Carol reading the letter for the first time have now been circulating on the internet.
