A top US general has expressed confidence in the safe command and control of Pakistan’s nuclear program despite fears of political instability and economic crisis.
According to international media, General Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), said in response to a question in the US Senate’s Arms Services Committee that he has confidence in the security procedures of Pakistan’s nuclear program.
The Commander General was asked in the Senate whether Pakistan’s nuclear program is in safe hands in the background of ongoing political instability and economic crisis in the country, to which he expressed confidence in the security of Pakistan’s nuclear program and stated that he is in touch with the military leadership of Pakistan and has a very good relationship with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Munir.
Kurilla further stated that he thinks Pakistan’s concerns are its budget, financial situation, current political situation and counter-terrorism. He further referred to the resurgence of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Pakistan.
