Condemnation of Violence and Personal Sacrifice
Leader of the Tehreek e Insaf Shirin Mazari has sent shockwaves through the nation as she announced her resignation from the party and her retirement from politics. In a press conference held in Islamabad, a somber Mazari stood alongside her lawyers and her daughter Imaan Mazari, delivering a heartfelt statement that left the audience in awe.
A Mother’s Heartbreak and Difficult Decision
Expressing her condemnation of the events that unfolded on May 9 and 10, Mazari revealed that she had taken an oath and submitted a statement to the Islamabad High Court on the matter. “I have always been a vocal opponent of violence, particularly when it targets the sanctity of our state institutions such as the GHQ, Parliament, or the Supreme Court. It is our collective duty to vehemently denounce such actions,” she proclaimed.
However, it was the personal toll that these recent events took on Mazari’s life that ultimately led her to make the heart-wrenching decision to retire from politics and distance herself from any political party, including the PTI. Recounting the harrowing days spent in custody, Shirin Mazari disclosed that her health had significantly deteriorated, and her daughter’s anxiety had reached distressing levels. The breaking point came when she witnessed her daughter’s tears through a video from Adiala Jail. Mazari tearfully explained, “I must devote time to my mother and children. With the recent loss of my husband five months ago, I am their sole pillar of support.”
