The city of Peshawar has been gripped by a wave of horrifying violence and looting, reaching alarming levels. Over the past few days, numerous individuals have fallen victim to ruthless killings, including three government officials.
Incidents of murder have been reported in various neighborhoods of Peshawar, while instances of suicide are also on the rise. In a shocking event, unidentified individuals in the Hassan Gari area of Faqirabad targeted a young employee of the Secretariat, as well as innocent civilians in a marketplace, claiming multiple lives.
The grieving brother, Naemat Ali, revealed to the police that his brother, Waqar Ali, had been leading a peaceful life with his in-laws after his marriage. On Wednesday, while he was en route to the Secretariat for his duty, unknown assailants ambushed him near his residence, firing at him mercilessly and ending his life on the spot. The armed attackers managed to escape. Similarly, Liqatullah from Chamkani reported to the police that his brother had left home the previous day but returned moments later, having been fatally wounded in a firing incident. He was rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved. The grieving brother had no knowledge of who could be behind his brother’s murder.
Carnage Continues Unabated, Leaving Families Devastated
Adding to the growing list of tragic incidents, separate incidents of suicide have been reported in different areas, including Akhtar Ali in Ehteram Colony, Shahpur in Anayat, Chamkani in Mohammad Arslan, Dawoodzai in 20-year-old Bilal, two individuals in Pishta Khara, and two in Regi and Pushta Khara, who resorted to taking their own lives.
These incidents of violence and murder have unfolded over the past three days, characterized by property disputes, longstanding enmities, and personal conflicts that have turned the streets into scenes of bloodshed. Experts attribute the surge in such brutal acts not only to the growing intolerance among people but also to the rampant availability of illegal firearms, exacerbating the level of violence. It is worth noting that just recently, a husband in Peshawar brutally murdered his wife due to rising inflation, while the prevailing poverty and unemployment have also driven many individuals to attempt suicide.
