There are growing concerns over the possible closure of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service in Peshawar as the company responsible for its operations is facing severe financial issues. Over the past three months, the company has failed to make any payments, leading to a communication from the company’s head to the Chief Minister.
According to the communication, the provincial government owes the company a staggering amount of 450 million rupees. If the outstanding payment issue persists, the operation of the BRT service will face significant challenges, impacting around 300,000 BRT passengers.
Despite the availability of funds with the TransPeshawar (the company managing BRT), the company’s non-payment is creating a difficult situation. The lack of payment is not only affecting the company’s financial stability but also posing a threat to the entire public transit system in Peshawar.
