Financial Crisis Strikes Water and Sanitation Services Company in Peshawar, Threatening Operations and Livelihoods

Water and sanitation services company Peshawar is facing a dire funding shortage, putting its operations at risk. The approved allocation of PKR 400 million from the Finance Department was unable to be disbursed, leaving the company struggling to meet its financial obligations.

Initially, the Finance Department had granted permission to release PKR 600 million in funds to the water and sanitation services company. However, only PKR 200 million was disbursed, leaving a staggering PKR 400 million unpaid.

Due to this non-payment, the employees of the company, already burdened by the crisis, have been deprived of their salaries. To make matters worse, the company had to let go of 30 inspectors responsible for ensuring cleanliness and sanitation due to the financial strain.

In response to the unpaid wages, the employees have announced a sit-in protest in front of the WSSP office, refusing to perform their duties until their salaries are cleared. This financial crisis has not only jeopardized the company’s functioning but also the livelihoods of its dedicated workforce.
