Singapore’s International Airport has taken a significant step in enhancing its security measures by deploying autonomous police robots after a successful trial period. These wheel-based robots, equipped with cameras, sensors, a display panel, and a siren, will play a crucial role in safeguarding the airport premises. Operating autonomously, they will patrol the airport lounges, ensuring the safety of travelers and providing an additional layer of surveillance.
Standing tall at five feet and seven inches, these robots boast a mast extension with a top-mounted camera for improved police surveillance. With built-in speakers and microphones, they can effectively communicate with individuals nearby, allowing travelers to seek assistance or ask questions.
According to Superintendent Lim Ke Wei of the Airport Police Division, these patrol robots work alongside human officers, enhancing operational efficiency and capabilities. By integrating robotics into its security measures, Singapore’s International Airport aims to empower its frontline officers to be more effective in their duties.
This development comes in the wake of the New York Police Department’s recent deployment of robots in the city, marking their second attempt to incorporate technology into policing after facing concerns regarding costs and privacy. Singapore’s proactive approach highlights its commitment to utilizing cutting-edge solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of travelers passing through its airport.
