Pakistan has achieved a significant diplomatic victory as the Asia-Pacific Group unanimously endorsed its candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the term 2025-2026. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed gratitude to the group, emphasizing Pakistan’s determination to make valuable contributions while upholding the principles of the UN Charter.
This endorsement reflects the international community’s recognition of Pakistan’s positive role in maintaining the fundamental purposes and principles of the United Nations. Over 20 countries, including China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, expressed strong support for Pakistan’s candidature during the Asia Pacific Group meeting.
Pakistan, with a rich history of seven previous terms on the UN Security Council, has consistently contributed to global peacekeeping efforts. The nation’s commitment is evident through the 200,000 Pakistani men and women who have served in 46 UN missions worldwide, with 171 peacekeepers having made the ultimate sacrifice. The upcoming election in June 2024 will determine Pakistan’s endorsement as the region’s candidate for the prestigious UN Security Council seat. As Pakistan moves forward, it continues to champion peace, security, development, and global cooperation in its pursuit of a safer and more united world.
