Commencing with a firm action against the police officials involved in the arrest of Shireen Mazari, Islamabad High Court witnesses a case of contempt of court. Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Akbar Naseer Khan, sought forgiveness from the court regarding the contempt of court case related to the arrest of Shireen Mazari.
Despite the court’s orders, IG Islamabad presented his response before the Islamabad High Court, expressing his remorse and apologizing for the violation of the court’s directives, stating that he feels ashamed of the impact caused by his non-compliance with the court order and extends his apologies. IG Islamabad stated that Advocate Imaan Mazari did not inform the police about the court’s order to prevent the arrest.
He assured the court that necessary measures would be taken in the future to avoid such situations and to ensure complete compliance with judicial orders. He further emphasized that there is no room for any violation or disregard of court instructions.
IG Islamabad revealed that a formal disciplinary action has been initiated against the police officers involved in Shireen Mazari’s arrest. Notices have been issued to the arresting police officers, including the Inspector, constables, and lady constables.
He disclosed that Inspector Haider Ali, constables Sahil Qureshi, Faisal, and Waqas were part of the arrest team. Lady constables Sandas and Marvi were also present during Shireen Mazari’s arrest.
In response, it was stated that the police had not been served with a copy of the court order to halt the arrest before the District Police Officer (DPO) Rawalpindi’s orders. The DPO had informed us about the May 17th order under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (SP).
Officials from Kohsar Police Station accompanied Rawalpindi police outside Shireen Mazari’s residence. Advocate Imaan Mazari had not informed the police about the court’s order to prevent the arrest.
