In a passionate plea, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, has urgently demanded a new National Finance Commission (NFC) award.
In a statement, Bizenjo expressed disappointment over the federal government’s failure to fulfill promises made to Balochistan. He highlighted that by June 30, neither had the province received its due share of the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) funds nor had the NFC share been fully allocated.
Abdul Quddus Bizenjo emphasized that they are not seeking charity from the federal government but rather demanding their rightful share. He urged not to be pushed against a wall or forced into a harsh reaction.
What is the NFC Award?
According to Article 160 of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan, every five years, a commission is formed to distribute the revenues collected from various taxes and resources among the federating units. This commission, known as the National Finance Commission (NFC), is responsible for the equitable distribution of national income.
The commission, appointed by the President of Pakistan, determines the share of revenue that the federal government will retain and how much will be allocated to the provinces.
This demand for a new NFC award by the Chief Minister of Balochistan reflects the frustration and emotional turmoil faced by the province, as they seek fair treatment and a just distribution of national resources.
