The Election Commission of Pakistan has requested political parties to submit applications for the revocation of election symbols in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
In a statement released by the Election Commission, it has been revealed that political parties should submit their requests for designated election symbols by July 19, accompanied by the signatures of party leaders.
The Election Commission emphasized that a preferred list of symbols will be compiled based on the received requests, and it is mandatory for each request to have the party leader’s signature. Furthermore, the address of the party’s headquarters must also be provided on each application. The eligibility of all political parties will be thoroughly examined upon receiving their requests.
According to the Election Commission, parties that had previously submitted incomplete or fraudulent applications for the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections in February and March will need to reapply. No consideration will be given to incomplete or fake requests. Moreover, requests for obtaining election symbols will not be entertained prior to today.
The Election Commission has stated that requests received after July 19, 2023, for the acquisition of election symbols will not be considered. Along with the requests, a mandatory affidavit under Section 206 of the Election Act 2017 must be submitted.
