In response to the federal government’s request, NEPRA has given its nod to an increase in electricity tariffs. According to NEPRA’s decision, there will be an approved increase of Rs. 7.50 per unit in the basic electricity tariff. This decision has been communicated back to the federal government. The new electricity prices will come into effect from 1st July, after the government’s notification and revision process.
There will be no increase in rates for protected consumers using up to 200 units per month. For households consuming 100 units, the electricity will cost Rs. 3 per unit, while for consumers using 101 to 200 units, the price will be Rs. 4 per unit.
Consumers falling into the 201 to 300 units bracket will be charged Rs. 5 per unit, and those using 301 to 400 units will bear the cost of Rs. 6.50 per unit. For users consuming 400 to 700 units, electricity will now be Rs. 7.50 more expensive.
