In a remarkable achievement, Pakistani app developers have surged to the 16th position in 2023, a substantial leap from their previous rank of 27th in 2018, as reported by Google. The impact of their ingenuity and creativity was evident when apps crafted in Pakistan were downloaded an astonishing four billion times last year.
During the first half of the current fiscal year, Pakistan’s IT exports soared by 2%, reaching an impressive $1.3 billion. Notably, these IT exports accounted for 38% of the nation’s total service exports, underscoring the sector’s significant contribution to the economy.
The tech giant’s research revealed that in 2022, 65 apps from 24 Pakistani developers secured the top 10 spots in the gaming and apps categories on both the Play Store and App Store, a testament to their growing influence in the global app market.
To foster this burgeoning success, Google organized a groundbreaking in-person apps and games event in Lahore, bringing together over 500 developers and industry leaders. In their commitment to empowering local talent, Google plans to expand its support for the Pakistani apps industry through initiatives like Think Apps, which will provide insights and trends from global experts to local developers.
Google’s Director for Pakistan, Farhan S. Qureshi, expressed unwavering confidence in the country’s potential to shape the future of the global app economy. With events like Think Apps 2023, the platform aims to unleash the potential of local talent, enabling them to create outstanding games and apps powered by Google’s AI solutions, accelerating their growth and expanding their global presence.
