Journalist and YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan, who had been missing for over four months, has been confirmed as “safe at home,” according to Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar. This long-awaited news brings relief to his family, friends, and supporters who had anxiously awaited his return.
The ordeal began when Imran Riaz Khan was arrested just two days after widespread protests erupted following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on May 9. He was last seen being taken to the Cantt police station and subsequently to Sialkot prison. The Lahore High Court was informed on May 15 that he had been released after providing a written undertaking.
The Lahore High Court had set a deadline for the Punjab police chief to recover Riaz by September 26, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti’s persistent efforts played a vital role in ensuring Imran Riaz Khan’s safe return.
Journalist Moeed Pirzada expressed gratitude for the recovery, emphasizing the importance of releasing others arrested in the aftermath of the May 9 violence, especially women. He urged the nation to come together, find solutions, and heal.
Imran Riaz Khan’s return home is not just a personal triumph but also a testament to the power of persistence and the importance of safeguarding press freedom.
