A man in Punjab went to extreme lengths to help his girlfriend pass a health workers’ exam, but his plan backfired when he was caught red-handed. Angrez Singh, who wanted to ensure that his girlfriend Paramjit Kaur would qualify for the job, decided to impersonate her by wearing a ladies’ suit, red bangles, lipstick, and a bindi.
He also used fake identity cards to enter the exam hall at DAV Public School in Kotkapura, where the test was conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences on January 7.
However, his disguise did not fool the exam officials, who noticed something fishy about his appearance and behavior. They checked his fingerprints on the biometric device and found out that they did not match with those of the real candidate. They immediately alerted the local police, who arrived at the scene and arrested Singh for cheating and forgery.
Paramjit Kaur, who was unaware of her boyfriend’s scheme, also faced the consequences of his actions. Her application for the multi-purpose health workers’ post was rejected by the university, and she may face legal action as well. The police said that they received a complaint from the university and were investigating the matter further.
This is not the first time that someone has tried to impersonate another person in an exam in Punjab. In 2011, a similar case was reported in Mohali, where a graduate student was nabbed for appearing as a fake candidate in the class XII exams of the Punjab School Education Board. He was trying to write the exams for his uncle, who had failed twice before.
