Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has announced that Iran will retaliate for the killing of five military commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) by an Israeli strike in Syria. In his message, Raisi strongly condemned the “cowardly attack” by Israel on the IRGC personnel, saying that it was a terrorist act that violated Syria’s airspace.
Raisi said that there was no doubt that Iran would respond to these crimes and cowardly acts in due course, adding that these attacks were evidence of the failure of the usurper regime, and that the Zionist regime had failed to achieve its impure goals.
It was reported that on the previous day, five military advisers of the IRGC were killed in an Israeli strike on the Syrian capital Damascus. The Israeli army targeted a four-story building that was used by the IRGC intelligence chiefs under the protection and cooperation of the Syrian government.
Among the casualties were Mohammad Kazemi, also known as Hajj Sadeq, the head of intelligence for the Quds Force, the IRGC’s foreign operations arm, and his deputy. The other four senior military commanders killed were Hojjatollah Omidvar, Ali Aghazadeh, Hossein Mohammadi and Saeed Karimi. The IRGC confirmed the martyrdom of its members and said that the senior military commanders were on a mission in Syria.
