Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has clinched the necessary seats to form the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the party’s provincial president Ali Amin Gandapur poised to become the next Chief Minister.
PTI has secured a majority in both the national and provincial assemblies’ seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where candidates have triumphed from Chitral, Abbottabad, Swat, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
To form the government in the province, 73 seats are required in the assembly. According to unofficial and non-governmental results, PTI-backed 76 independent candidates have emerged victorious.
This marks PTI’s third consecutive position to form a government in the province without any coalition partners. Ali Amin Gandapur could become the third Chief Minister from Dera Ismail Khan, following Mufti Mahmood and Sardar Inayatullah Khan Gandapur.
Previously, PTI formed the provincial government for the first time in 2013, with Pervez Khattak as the Chief Minister, succeeded by Mahmood Khan in 2018.
Ali Amin Gandapur previously served as a minister in the provincial government and was part of PTI’s federal cabinet in 2018. This development sets the stage for a new era in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s governance under PTI’s leadership.
