Bollywood mourns the sudden demise of rising star Sohani Bhatnagar, who portrayed the childhood role of Babita Kumari in the superhit film “Dangal,” led by the maestro of perfection, Aamir Khan.
According to Indian media reports, Bhatnagar, aged 19, had suffered a fracture in her leg some time ago, for which she had been undergoing treatment. However, the medications she took had adverse effects on her health, leading to fluid accumulation throughout her body.
Concerned about her deteriorating condition, Bhatnagar was admitted to the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital in Delhi, where treatment was ongoing. Sadly, on the morning of February 17, she breathed her last, leaving behind a wave of shock and grief in the Indian entertainment industry.
It’s worth noting that “Dangal,” released on December 23, 2016, not only made waves in Hindi but also in Telugu and Tamil languages. It swiftly emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film immediately after its release.
Following “Dangal,” Bhatnagar had taken a hiatus from acting to focus on her studies, as she aspired to excel academically. The film was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao.
In the movie, Aamir Khan portrayed the character of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become India’s first female wrestlers at an international level.
Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra essayed the roles of Khan’s adult daughters, while Zaira Wasim and Sohani Bhatnagar depicted their younger selves. The untimely demise of Sohani Bhatnagar has left the industry and fans bereft of a promising talent, reminding everyone of the fragility of life and the unpredictability of fate.
