Former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentary (PTI-P) Pervez Khattak has announced his resignation from the party’s chairmanship due to poor health. He said he could not handle any more political responsibilities and wanted to focus on his recovery.
Khattak’s resignation has been accepted by the party, according to PTI parliamentary spokesperson Ziaullah Bangash. He said the party appreciated Khattak’s services and wished him a speedy recovery.
Bangash also announced that Mahmood Khan has been elected as the new chairman of PTI. He said Mahmood Khan was a loyal and competent leader who would lead the party to new heights of success.
Khattak, who served as the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018, was considered one of the close aides of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He was also the defence minister of Pakistan and a member of the National Assembly. He has been suffering from various health issues for some time and has undergone several surgeries.
