The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced a Ramazan relief package for 900,000 beneficiaries, who will receive Rs 10,000 each in cash during the holy month. The package is aimed at providing financial assistance to the poor and needy people in the province amid the rising inflation and economic challenges.
The chief minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, said that the data of the beneficiaries will be collected from the Ehsas programme, a flagship social welfare initiative of the federal government, to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of funds. He said that the provincial government will allocate Rs 9 billion for the Ramazan relief package, which will be disbursed through the Ehsas cash centres across the province.
Gandapur, who was elected as the chief minister of KP in February 2024, also pledged to introduce large-scale reforms in the province to curb corruption, crime, and drug abuse. He said that he will seek the services of experts and professionals to improve the governance and service delivery in the province. He vowed to work day and night to serve the people of KP and present a model of good governance within the first month of his tenure.
The Ramazan relief package is part of the PTI-led provincial government’s efforts to provide relief and support to the masses, especially during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. The package is expected to benefit the low-income groups, daily wage earners, and vulnerable segments of the society, who have been hit hard by the lockdowns and restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the virus.
The provincial government of KP has also announced other measures to facilitate the people during Ramazan, such as setting up Ramazan bazaars, ensuring the availability and affordability of essential commodities, and providing uninterrupted electricity and gas supply.
