As the devastating 7-month war rages on in the besieged Gaza Strip, the displaced residents of the Palestinian enclave are desperately longing to hear the word “ceasefire.” According to an Al Jazeera report, all the homeless people of Gaza, who have been living under the brutal bombardment of Zionist forces, are eager to return to their homes, but they are not entirely certain when the fighting will end.
These displaced Gazans are anxiously waiting to hear the term “ceasefire” on TV or radio, but this phrase has become a bittersweet symbol of hope and deep despair for them. This is because the savage Israeli regime has been relentlessly bombing them day and night for the past seven months, extinguishing the lights of their lives.
In this dire situation, these IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) say with a weary desire for “ceasefire” that if a truce is reached, they can finally go back to their homes. The past seven months of intense warfare have turned their lives into a living nightmare, and the ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of 34,683 Palestinians and injured 78,018 more since October 7, 2023.
The term “ceasefire” is now not only on the lips of Gaza’s homeless but also on the chants of protesters worldwide, who are screaming for the world to stop Israel’s genocidal rampage. The Zionist regime is not only bombarding the Palestinians but also blocking food and medical aid, committing the worst crimes against humanity.
There have been several rounds of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in recent months, but these talks have failed to end the bloodshed or secure even a temporary respite. Hamas now demands a permanent cessation of hostilities and assurances that Israel will not attack the Rafah refugee camp, home to nearly 1.5 million Palestinians. However, Israel has only agreed to a 40-day pause in the fighting and has vowed to attack Rafah, regardless of any deal.
