In a time where extremists in India have begun harassing Muslims, a Muslim governor of an Indian state has sparked controversy by offering prayers at a temple to save his position.
Arif Mohammad Khan, the Governor of Kerala, recently visited the contentious Ayodhya temple in Uttar Pradesh, where his actions have drawn criticism from Indian Muslims.
A video of the Governor inside the temple has gone viral on social media, showing him prostrating before the Hindu deity in the Ayodhya temple, a sight that has stirred debate among Indian Muslims.
During his visit to the Ram temple on a Wednesday, the Governor toured various sections, stating that he will continue to visit because they are neighboring cities. In a conversation with the Indian media, the Governor expressed his intention to keep visiting Ayodhya, mentioning his previous visits in January.
He further added, “I will also get the opportunity to officially inaugurate. I am extremely happy to be here and have found peace in my heart.” Additionally, the Governor claimed that the entire nation celebrated the restoration of the Ayodhya temple.
On the other hand, Indian Muslims have strongly criticized the act of a Muslim governor prostrating and worshipping the Hindu deity, accusing him of prioritizing his position over his faith.
It is important to note that the Ayodhya temple, also known as the Ram temple, was built after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, which sparked intense protests from Muslims worldwide, including in India.
