Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, has announced a day of national mourning and the hoisting of flags at half-mast across the country following the passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
In a statement released on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed condolences on behalf of the Pakistani government and people for the loss of Ebrahim Raisi. He conveyed sympathies, stating that after the tragic helicopter crash involving the Iranian President, they had hoped for positive news but were deeply saddened by the outcome.
Offering prayers, he expressed hope that Allah would grant the martyrs the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdaus and bestow patience upon their families and the Iranian nation in this time of tragedy.
Reflecting on Ebrahim Raisi’s recent visit to Pakistan last month, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif highlighted the historic significance of hosting the Iranian President and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian almost a month before their untimely demise.
He emphasized their strong friendship with Pakistan and announced the nationwide observance of a day of mourning, recognizing them as great friends of Pakistan. In solidarity with Iran, flags will be flown at half-mast across the country to honor the memory of the deceased leaders.
