Japanese government has been grappling with the rapidly growing population of a highly aggressive species of animal that has caused significant damage to the country’s economy and environment.
According to a report by a foreign news agency, the increasing numbers of ‘raccoons’ in Japan have taken on a dangerous form, causing considerable harm to the ecology and economy of the nation.
The Tokyo government has stated that special measures have been taken to control the population of this animal, resulting in the capture of nearly 1,300 raccoons during the 2022 fiscal year alone. This figure represents a five-fo,ld increase compared to the number caught a decade ago.
The report suggests that in 2022, raccoons were blamed for causing nearly $3 million in damage to crops. However, their intelligent nature has made it extremely difficult to control their numbers effectively.
The Japanese government has reiterated its stance on raccoons as an invasive species and has vowed to take stringent measures to address the issue.
