A tragic incident during a “Save Gaza” protest has led to shocking revelations as the driver responsible for the deaths of two activists was identified as a serving lieutenant in the Pakistan Army. The fatal event occurred on Monday near Islamabad’s Red Zone, where a car plowed into the demonstrators, also injuring four others, including a police inspector.
The suspect, who is the son of a brigadier, was swiftly taken into custody by the Military Police, according to local authorities. The vehicle involved was registered under his father’s name, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
The protest was part of a series of demonstrations showing solidarity with Gaza, drawing significant public attention. Eyewitnesses recounted the chaos as the car struck the protesters, causing immediate fatalities and multiple injuries.
Subsequent to the arrest, the suspect’s father reportedly arrived at the police station, allegedly attempting to leverage his influence to secure his son’s release. However, military and police coordination ensured that the suspect was handed over to the appropriate military judicial system.
A case has been registered at Kohsar police station under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including charges related to causing death by negligence and reckless driving.
