Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has declared May 28, Youm-e-Takbir, a public holiday to commemorate Pakistan’s historic achievement of becoming a nuclear power.
Youm-e-Takbir marks the day in 1998 when Pakistan conducted its successful nuclear tests, making its defense impregnable. This day is a reminder of the nation’s unity and resolve to protect its sovereignty at all costs.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the significance of Youm-e-Takbir, stating, “This day symbolizes the unity of the Pakistani nation in making our country’s defense indomitable. It serves as a reminder that we will never compromise on our national security under any external pressure.”
Youm-e-Takbir also celebrates the collaboration between political and military forces in strengthening the nation’s defense under one flag, the green and white crescent banner. It is a day to renew the pledge to thwart not only external threats but also the internal adversaries who seek to destabilize the country through divisive politics.
“On this day, the entire Pakistani nation, including myself, reaffirms our commitment to ensuring the economic security of our country through relentless hard work, just as we have secured our defense,” said Sharif.
He called upon the nation to unite against not only external enemies but also internal elements that aim to spread discord, referencing the events of May 9 as a reminder of the ongoing threats. “Let us pledge today to counter these disruptive forces with unity, organization, and firm belief, ensuring peace and prosperity for Pakistan,” he added.
