A tragic stampede claimed the lives of 87 people, including many women and children, during a religious ceremony in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh. The overcrowded event turned chaotic, leading to a sudden and deadly rush.
According to reports, the majority of the victims are women and children, and the death toll may rise as investigations continue. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken swift action by forming a committee to investigate the incident, while President Droupadi Murmu has extended her heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.
Hathras District Magistrate Ashish Kumar reported that the Community Health Center has confirmed the deaths of 50 to 60 individuals. Additionally, authorities in Etah district have confirmed the deaths of another 27 people, bringing the total to 87.
SSP Etah Rajesh Kumar reiterated that the victims include women and children and that thorough investigations are underway to determine the cause and prevent future tragedies.
