Following Pakistan’s crushing defeat against England in the Multan Test on home soil, opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad took to social media to voice his frustration with the team’s performance. In a video shared on Facebook, Shehzad did not mince his words, sharply criticizing both the players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Shehzad sarcastically suggested that the team watch the Bollywood film Lagaan, known for its depiction of an underdog cricket team overcoming odds. “It’s clear from the way Pakistan created a batting-friendly pitch that they were setting themselves up for failure,” he remarked. The opener went on to criticize the team’s lack of passion and pride, emphasizing that the PCB spends money, yet the players seem to show little regard for the country’s dignity.
In a more biting tone, Shehzad quipped, “It seems we can’t even find a bowler like Kachra from Lagaan who managed to get English players out. Our spinners seem too busy having tea to focus on their craft.” His sarcastic comments portrays the frustration many fans are feeling after the team’s continued lackluster performances.
Shehzad expressed disappointment in how Pakistan’s cricket team is being outplayed, especially on their home ground. “First, we suffered a historic defeat against Bangladesh, and now we’re putting on poor performances against England,” he added. His words reflect a growing sentiment that changes are desperately needed.
Concluding his remarks, Shehzad stated that it’s high time the selectors and chairman focus on giving opportunities to younger players. “We can’t continue to fool the nation through social media,” he said, calling for real changes in the squad rather than empty promises.
