Russian hunter Alexey Kim has achieved a remarkable feat by hunting the largest markhor of the year in Chitral, Pakistan. The hunt took place in the Singoor Dok area, within the buffer zone of Chitral Gol National Park.
The markhor, Pakistan’s national animal, was 14 years old and boasted impressive 55-inch long horns, setting a new record for horn length in the region. Kim secured the hunting permit for $71,000, contributing significantly to wildlife conservation funds.
This event marks the fourth and largest non-exportable markhor hunt in the Chitral Gol National Park’s buffer zone this year. Following the successful hunt, residents of Shah Mirandeh in Singoor warmly welcomed Kim, adorning him with traditional Chitrali caps and garlands in appreciation.
The practice of trophy hunting in Pakistan, particularly in regions like Chitral, has been instrumental in wildlife conservation. The substantial fees from hunting permits are allocated towards conservation projects and community development, ensuring the protection of species like the markhor while supporting local economies.
