PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Food Safety and Hilal food Authority continued its crackdown against counterfeit cold drinks and discarded over 4,000 liters beverages in Peshawar.
The authority said in a statement that during an operation on Charsadda Road in Peshawar, a factory has been sealed for manufacturing counterfeit drinks in the name of a multinational company. “During the operation, more than 4,000 liters of counterfeit drinks were recovered from the unit,” the statement claimed.

The KP Food Authority Shah Rukh Ali Khan said that operations against counterfeit drinks have been intensified across the province on the directives of Food Minister Atif Khan and Food Secretary Capt. (Retd) Mushtaq Ahmed ahead of the holy month of ramazan. He added that a large quantity of packing material and filling machinery were also seized during the operation.
Khan said that the drinks produced in the unit were supplied throughout the city. Moreover, the sanitation situation at the unit was also found to be “very poor”. Shah Rukh Ali Khan warned, “Strict legal action will be taken against businesses that manufacture counterfeit drinks in the province.”
The authority said that businesses were also inspected in other districts of the province and owners were instructed to take special care of hygiene and strictly adhere to the principles of food safety. “A large quantity of expired biscuits and candies was recovered from a shop and a heavy fine was imposed. A meat shop was also fined for poor hygiene,” the food authority informed.
