London: Rishi Sunak gained enough support to become a candidate for the post of PM. The race to become Britain’s next prime minister has entered a productive phase.
Rishi Sonuk, the former Finance Minister, restrained the consent of the required number of members to become a candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
103 Conservative MPs have announced their support for Rishi Sunak, while former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is still determined to be in the running and has returned to the UK from a holiday abroad.
Apart from this, Penny Mordent’s star failed to shine this time as well. The Leader of the House of Commons could only get the support of a few members. Rishi Sunak is amongst the favourites to replace Johnson as the prime minister. If the 42-year-old succeeds, he could become the first Indian-origin prime minister of the UK.
The process of electing a new leader of the Conservative Party will be completed on October 28.
