PESHAWAR: Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday won the NA-45 Kurram by-election after he defeated Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) candidate Jamil Khan with a margin of 8,039 votes.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Imran secured 20,748 votes against the rival candidate, a joint candidate of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
Jamail Khan bagged 12,718 votes.
Reacting to the party victory in the by-polls, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan said the people of the province have once again reposed full confidence in the leadership of the PTI chief.
“The band of thieves is completely rejected,” he said while congratulating the workers and supporters of the party.
Polling for the vacant seat of the National Assembly constituency NA-45 Kurram in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) concluded on Sunday evening.
Polling began at 8 am and continued till 5 pm without any break.
The spokesman of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) K-P division said a day earlier that there were 198,618 registered voters among which 111,349 were men and 87,269 were women.
