The Sui gas companies have appealed to OGRA for a 237% hike in gas prices. The Sui Northern and Sui Southern companies have submitted applications for extension to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
The demand for Sui gas drastically increased with the commencement of winter. The Sui gas companies have yet to plan for another blow to the people of Pakistan who have already sunk in despair due to the financial crisis and uncontrollable inflation.
According to the statements released by OGRA, an increase in gas prices has been demanded since July 1st of the current financial year. Sui Northern has demanded a 237% increase whereas Sui Southern has demanded a 96% increase in gas prices.
Sui Northern has requested OGRA to fix the average price of gas from Rs 1,294 to Rs 1,840 per MMBtu. Sui Northern, on the other hand, has requested OGRA to raise the average price of gas from Rs 667 to Rs 1,360 per MMBtu.
With the rise in prices for almost every basic necessity, it has become utterly difficult for people to survive. The record-breaking inflation and the low-income rates have left people high and dry. No action plan to help the surviving class has been initiated by the government. To make ends meet has indeed become a struggle.
