Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab has been established at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) under a joint venture between the telecom industry and academia.
According to the report, the aim of the Innovation Lab is to determine the utility of 5G through a ‘social-equivalent lens’ and to come up with solutions in health, education, transport and business that are tailored to local contexts. The ‘Innovation Lab’ is a research project supported by Jazz and Huawei Technologies. Its purpose is to determine the impact and utility of 5G telecom services in Pakistani society. It will involve various departments of NUST.
Leveraging its superior bandwidth, high speed, and advanced security, the project enables researchers in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality, the healthcare sector, manufacturing, service industry, agriculture, security, disaster management, entertainment, and the public sector to work out the potential uses of 5G.
Federal Secretary for Information Technology and Telecom Mohsin Mushtaq laid the foundation stone of the 5G Innovation Lab. He stated that the lab will play an important role in helping to build an ecosystem using 5G in IT and Telecom technologies.
