Pakistan’s gas reserves are depleting fast. The demand for fuel is jetting while supplies are shrinking due to no discovery of new gas reserves over the past two decades. Backward provinces of the country like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been bearing the brunt.
Fortunately, Russia has agreed to supply natural gas to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Speaking to the Russian news agency, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that under the long-term plan, natural gas can be supplied to Pakistan and Afghanistan through Central Asia or Iran.
According to reports, he added that Europe is ready to restore gas through the Yamal-Europe pipeline, which has been blocked for political reasons, Russia is negotiating additional gas supplies through a Turkey-based hub.
He further said that an agreement has been reached with Azerbaijan and talks are being held with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to increase the gas supply.
