Over the past few months, there has been a major shift in the lifestyle of the people living in the United Kingdom. The UK of today is very different from the one of a few years ago.
The prime reason for all that are the 3 major events that have happened in the last few years. For example, Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union, the pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine war.
These events have had profound effects on the individual and collective lives of people. The British economy is shrinking, inflation is skyrocketing and the Bank of England has to raise interest rates every month, affecting all walks of life.
Moreover, political instability has been prominent in the UK for the last 3 years. The overall rate of inflation in the United Kingdom is at 10.7 percent while the rate of inflation in food and beverages is more than 16 percent.
The gravity of the situation and the anxiety among the working class can be gauged from the fact that nursing staff in Britain went on strike for the first time in 106 years to demand a pay rise. Along with this, the unions of ambulance staff, bus drivers, border forces, teachers, and university staff have also released the schedule of strikes. In the meantime, military personnel in the UK are seen driving ambulances and managing airports to keep services running, which is perhaps a rare occurrence in itself.
