Former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul has emerged as a strong competitor for the role of the Men in Green’s bowling coach, according to sources.
Umar Gul has likewise expressed his desire to work for the Pakistan Cricket Team as a bowling coach. The former right-arm pacer announced in an interview that his contract with the Afghanistan Cricket Board has expired on December 31, 2022. According to him, Gul yearned to work for the Pakistan team after his retirement in 2020. However, the PCB never reached him for a bowling coach, so he had to accept the offer from Afghanistan Cricket Board.
The forty-year-old fast bowler from Peshawar has taken 163 wickets in 47 Test matches and 179 wickets in 130 ODI matches. He also has one hundred and sixty-five catches in T20 matches.
On the contrary, the contract with Mickey Arthur as the head coach is almost confirmed. According to the sources, he has sought time from the PCB for a final decision. Mickey Arthur currently has a 3-year contract with English County Derbyshire, he will respond to the PCB after settling the matter with them first.
It should be cited that the contracts of current national team head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and bowling coach Sean Tait are ending on February 9.
