The audit report of the Poverty Alleviation and Social Security Division 2019-20 revealed financial irregularities of billions of rupees in the poverty alleviation and BISP programs. According to the reports, 19 billion rupees of the Benazir Income Support Program were distributed amongst government employees.
According to the audit authorities, funds were illegally distributed among 143,000 people, of which 2500 were grade 17 officers. Whereas under the law, government employees, including BISP, are not entitled to cash assistance. The cases of employees who illegally took share in the funds are with the FIA for inquiry.
PAC expressed concern over the transfer of Benazir Income Support Program funds directly to Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners. It further directed recovery and inquiry from government employees.
