Transporters in Peshawar are facing significant financial losses as a result of protest demonstrations and road closures organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). They are now urging the government to provide compensation for the damages caused.
Khan Zaman Afridi, the President of the Public Transport Owners Association, expressed his concerns over the lack of action taken by the provincial and federal governments to address the issue.
Losses amounting to crores of rupees have been incurred by transporters due to the ongoing protests. To ensure the safety of their vehicles and mitigate the risk of vandalism, the transporters were forced to park their vehicles across various districts, including Peshawar. Despite being responsible citizens who contribute billions of rupees annually in taxes, fines, and recoveries to the government, the transporters feel neglected and unprotected.
The transporters’ leaders have made a three-day ultimatum to the caretaker government, the transport department, and the federal government, demanding a comprehensive assessment of the damages and appropriate compensation. They hope that this action will alleviate their anxiety and address their financial losses. If their demands are not met, the transporters have threatened to stage a strong protest.
