In a recent development, the Khwaja Sara community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has appealed to the Shariat Appellate Bench to review the recent controversial decision of the Federal Shariat Court which they deemed to be against human rights and unfair.
The Khwaja Sara community representatives, including the chairperson of Trans Action Alliance, Farzana Riaz, Arzu, and other leaders, expressed their concerns about the recent decision of the Federal Shariat Court which they claim would cause severe damage to their community’s rights. They argued that the Pakistani parliament had given them the right to self-identity, and the acquisition of identity cards based on their gender identity was within their fundamental rights.
The Khwaja Sara community representatives demanded the Shariat Appellate Bench to review the decision of the Federal Shariat Court, which overlooked the community’s rights and pushed them back by two decades. They further urged all Islamic countries to follow the examples of some countries that allow Khwaja Sara people to exercise the right of self-identity.
