Key figures from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have reached a significant agreement during their meetings in the United Arab Emirates. The discussions have resulted in consensus on several crucial matters, including the allocation of prominent seats and a formula for power-sharing in the event of victory in the upcoming elections.
According to reports, the leaders of PML-N, including their leader Nawaz Sharif, and PPP’s leader Asif Ali Zardari, held multiple meetings over the course of a week to finalize decisions not only pertaining to the elections but also the date for the next general elections.
The meetings were attended by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N’s senior vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and Attorney General Nazeer Tarar.
During these deliberations, discussions also took place regarding the return of Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan, as the Attorney General briefed him on the status of his ongoing legal cases in light of the recent bills proposed in Parliament. Speculation is rife that if a lenient approach is taken regarding their sentences, Nawaz Sharif might be able to return to Pakistan by August 14th.
Following the meetings, Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Attorney General Nazeer Tarar returned to Pakistan, while Bilawal Bhutto Zardari departed for Tokyo. Nawaz Sharif, who arrived in London from Pakistan, is likely to extend his stay in the United Arab Emirates for another week for further political and business engagements.
This groundbreaking agreement between the PML-N and PPP has the potential to reshape the political landscape of Pakistan. The details of the power-sharing formula and seat allocation are yet to be revealed, but the alliance holds the promise of a united front against common challenges.
