The residence of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Pir Muhammad Aslam witnessed a harrowing hand grenade attack on Friday in Risalpur, Nowshera district. The terror unfolded after Aslam had previously received a threatening letter from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on July 1.
According to the filed report at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, the TTP demanded a staggering Rs1 Crore from the PPP leader, explicitly mentioning the amount in the chilling letter. The gravity of the situation escalated when Aslam received intimidating phone calls from Afghanistan, warning him to arrange the money or face dire consequences.
Terrifyingly, the threat extended to his family’s safety, with the Taliban menacingly vowing to eliminate his loved ones if their demands were not met. Disturbingly, this is not an isolated incident, as similar extortion tactics were employed last year against senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Atif Khan, who received a demand of Rs8 million from the Taliban.
