Mourners from all corners of the country took to the streets to observe Yaum-i-Ashura (Muharram 10) with deep reverence, despite strict security arrangements and mobile phone services suspension in certain areas to avert any untoward incidents.
Peshawar
The city of Peshawar observed Yaum-i-Ashura with solemnity and devotion. The procession culminated at the Imambargah Haji Ali Akbar following its designated route. The organizers made sure to provide water and sharbat (sweet drink) along the procession route for the participants’ comfort.
Moreover, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa imposed Section 144, restricting arms display, pillion riding, tinted glass use in vehicles, and people standing on rooftops, throughout Muharram.
Lahore
Lahore witnessed its main procession setting out from Nisar Haveli in Mohalla Chillah Bibian, making its way to the Karbala Ghamay Shah Imambargah. The Lahore police made strict security arrangements, deploying snipers on rooftops along the route. More than 125,000 police officials, including 15,000 for the main processions, were assigned to ensure safety.
Quetta
The main procession in Quetta departed from the Nasirabad Imambargah and culminated at the Mominabad Imambargah, passing through Alamdar Road, Toghi Road, Mission Road, Bacha Khan Chowk, Liaquat Bazaar, and Prince Road. Security checks were mandatory for procession participants, with a total of 36 mourning processions organized by the city’s various Imambargahs.
Karachi
Karachi’s main procession started from Nishtar Park, concluding at Hussainiyah Iranian Imambargah in the Kharadar area via MA Jinnah Road. Scouts supported police and Rangers, who were deployed to ensure security. The traffic police had implemented alternative routes and road closures to accommodate the procession.
Gilgit
The main procession in Gilgit commenced from Central Imamia Mosque and returned to the same place in the afternoon, following its traditional routes. Zuhr prayers were offered at Captain Zameer Abbas Chowk, with majlis organized at various Imambargahs in the evening.
As Pakistan observed Yaum-i-Ashura with piety, unity, and reverence, the message of faith, resilience, and commitment to justice echoed through the streets, reaffirming the enduring spirit of the nation.
