In a display of religious intolerance, the far-right group “Danish Patriots” has struck again, desecrating copies of the holy Quran outside the Pakistan embassy in Copenhagen. On July 26, they callously burned the sacred book while stomping on the Pakistani flag, provoking widespread anger and condemnation.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Just a day earlier, the same group targeted the Turkish and Egyptian embassies in Copenhagen, setting Quran copies ablaze. And it’s not confined to Denmark either – Sweden experienced similar acts of disrespect towards the Quran on June 28 and July 20.
As images and videos of the hateful acts spread, the Muslim world erupted in protests, with many nations summoning the ambassadors of Sweden and Denmark to express their outrage.
The international community has rallied against this blatant disregard for religious sentiments. Egypt and Turkey have been particularly vocal in their condemnation, demanding that Denmark take urgent measures to prevent such “hate crimes” from recurring.
Swedish foreign minister Tobias Billstrom aptly termed the desecration as an offensive and disrespectful act that serves as a clear provocation.
