A heartbreaking audio recording has emerged of the last moments of Layan Hamadeh, a 15-year-old Palestinian girl who was shot and killed by Israeli forces while trapped in a car with her 6-year-old cousin Hind in Gaza City.
The recording, which was published by the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), captures Layan’s desperate plea for help as she contacts the PRCS ambulance team, while gunfire and explosions can be heard in the background.
“They’re shooting at us, the tank is next to us. We are in the car, next to the tank,” Layan says in the recording, before a loud gunshot cuts off her voice.
According to the PRCS, Layan was killed by the Israeli bullet, while Hind remained trapped inside the car for hours, wounded and terrified. The PRCS ambulance team that went to rescue them on Sunday evening has not returned as of Monday night, and the PRCS has lost contact with them since then.
The PRCS said it is “shocked and saddened” by the killing of its four medical team members and two transported injuries in Gaza Strip, and condemned the repeated targeting of its ambulances and hospitals by the Israeli occupation forces.
The PRCS also expressed deep concern over the fate of Hind, who is one of the thousands of children affected by the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, which has killed more than 26000 Palestinians, including tens of thousands of children, and injured more than 64000 others, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The PRCS urgently appealed to the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide essential aid and supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip, and to intervene to stop the Israeli violations of international humanitarian law and human rights.
