In a historic display of solidarity, more than 10,000 pro-Palestine advocates flooded the streets of central London this Saturday, urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
This marked the UK’s inaugural national demonstration following the UN International Court of Justice’s directive to Israel to prevent acts of genocide in the region.
Jewish and Zionist groups joined the rally, emphatically calling for a ceasefire. Banners denouncing Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu and pleas for a hostage deal resonated alongside chants declaring, “Netanyahu, shame, shame, not in our name.”
The diverse crowd, estimated by Scotland Yard at 10,000 in the West End and swelling to 20,000 during speeches in Whitehall, conveyed a resolute message: “end the killing,” “Free the children,” “Freedom to Palestine,” and “Boycott Israel.” Despite a peaceful atmosphere, disruptions unfolded in Haymarket, leading to arrests related to a smoke bomb and alleged incitement of racial hatred.
